I have said it before and I will say it again: Thank God it’s Friday. What I actually mean is this: Thank God it’s Flyday! Yes, people, Brussels Airlines is offering three 99 euro roundtrip destinations today: Warsaw, Berlin and Vienna. Damn hard to make a choice, I tells ya! I actually should go for Warsaw because I haven’t been there yet, but Berlin and Vienna? You can send me there any day of the week!
How strange that I haven’t written a blogpost about Vienna before, huh. Maybe it’s because last time I was there, I got there right after my visit to the Sziget festival in Budapest, which makes everything else seem a bit blurry in my memory. If you know what I mean. Anyway, if you would ask me know: “Oh awesome Mr. the.ego.tripper, which Flyday destination should I choose?” I would answer: “Babygirl, let’s go to Vienna!” Smooth, aren’t I?
And smooth is Vienna as well, like a baby’s bottom. Oh, for those of you who really don’t know what the hell I’m talking about: Vienna is the capital of Austria, which is not Australia. No sir, Austria is the fantastic land of Wiener sausage (which they call Frankfurter sausage in Vienna by the way), Wiener schnitzel (which they call Wiener schnitzel because they’re proud of their dish, as they should be!), Apfelstrudel, sachertorte, schnapps, Johan Strauss, the Alps, Alp Horn (this is not a sexual term), The Sound of Music and of course Sisi.
When we talk about Vienna, first thing that comes to mind are museums, palaces, classical music and food. NICE! Yes, Vienna is nice. And historically important, a cultural hotspot, a culinary orgasm. But it’s so much more than that. Vienna is hip and trendy as well. On the Danube river banks you can find the coolest summer bars. But before drinking too much Austrian beer, please enjoy the arts and culture Vienna’s offering. Visit the amazing Museumsquartier, Karlsplatz, the Stephansdom, the Schönbrunn Palace, the Opera House, the Belvedère and many other sites and buildings with awesome Austrian names you won’t be able to pronounce.
Damn, I just horned myself into buying a ticket. See you there!
