Antwerp by dog walk

For a few weeks now I’ve been thinking of blogging about Antwerp, my hometown. But that’s not as easy as it seems. You see, this is one of the few cities in the world where I’m not a tourist. No, I’m a (semi)local (semi because I’m not originally from Antwerp, but I’ve been living here for about six years now). And that makes it difficult to write a touristy report. So then I figured, why don’t I show you Antwerp the way I see it every day, when I’m walking my dog? Luckily for you I live in the city center which makes this camera phone blogpost much more interesting. So what I will do is this: regularly I’ll show you new sides of Antwerp by dog walk. Hope you’ll enjoy my city photographically. And hopefully you might visit my hometown someday, in which case I’m out of coffee, sorry. Antwerp is pretty easy on the eyes and if you’re into eating, drinking, partying, chocolate and/or diamonds, you’ll have a blast! (you can click on the pictures to make ’em bigger)

Cherry blossom, I suppose

      1. Also, I found it very interesting that your hometown is such a foreign, touristy place in itself. And it had me wondering, “Are you Swedish?”

        1. Haha, no, I’m not. But Antwerp is really not that foreign (well, it actually is to foreigners) or touristy. We do get a lot of stag parties here I’m afraid. And lately we’ve been getting quite a lot of cruise boat people (Antwerp is the second biggest port in Europe, so we get huge ass cruise ships stopping by). But it’s nothing like Bruges, which is a little too touristy to live in, if you ask me.

        2. In the north of Belgium, close to Holland. But for someone who has a hard time seeing the difference between Prague and Lisbon, I’d googlemap it. Or if this is any easier: about 2000k northeast of Lisbon and about 900 k west of Prague. Or this is even easier: on the Paris-Amsterdam axis. Or in driving time: to Amsterdam would take me about 1,5 hours, to Paris about 3,5, to London about 4,5h and to Berlin about 7h.

  1. I’ve only been to Brussels but many people told me if I go back to Belgium one day (given it would be still a country :)) I have to go to Antwerp. Judging from your photographs I think they’re right.

    1. I was in Belgium last year but unfortunately I didn’t put this place on my itinerary. Great pics as usual. 🙂

  2. Excellent idea, very nice pics!
Antwerp is a beautiful city, one of my favourite, in fact.
When is the next time you’ll walk your dog, looking forward to new pics!
